Looking south along Playstead Road from where I parked towards West Medford Square. The station is on the right.

A somewhat more substantial shelter on the inbound platform is attached to the West Medford post office.

If it weren't for the sign, I don't think you'd know that this was actually a station and not, say, a maintenance garage.

The exposure adjustment makes the interior look a lot less gloomy in the photo than it does in real life. A passageway at right leads to the outbound platform, which has its own sets of stairs and ramps.

These signs are unusual: the standard MBTA signs are just black numerals on a square white sign, with no other text.

Min-high for the inbound platform, with a folding edge for over-width freight clearance. The mini-highs are both on the north side of the Bacon St. overpass.

This mini-high has a wood substructure sitting on concrete footings, just like you might build a deck or gazebo.

For some reason this station has slightly offset platforms.

Winchester Center is barely four tenths of a mile north of Wedgemere, and I suspect the signals seen off in the distance are actually at the entrance to that station.

Canopies on this side have been removed but the ramps are still standing for the moment.

No, I did not pick up the handset to see if the payphones still had dial tone.

It's the Downeaster! This run is being led by GE P42DC #88...

...and trailed by "cabbage" 90214, a converted EMD F40, which unlike the locomotive is painted in a Downeaster-specific livery.

Hmmm, it's a, um, bank office.

Is this some kind of cruel joke? There is a drop-off but no place anyone can actually park?

What does it mean for a platform to be "out of service"? It's just asphalt!
